About Project
The context in which appeared the “Challenges of intercultural education in rroma communities” project is found in the activities implemented by Asociatia Tinerilor Rromi Valcea (ATRV) in support of Roma communities from Valcea County, starting in 2010.
The specific objectives of the project are:
- The implementation of an innovative voluntary stage in the field of civic and social education for a number of 8 volunteers for a period of an year (June1st 2017 – May 30th 2018)
- The initiation of voluntary activities of civic and social education for an year in 3 rural communities and in a roma urban comunity from Valcea County
- The realization of an online portal which aims the exchange of good practices for voluntary projects addressing to social-economic and ethical disadvantaged communities
The duration of the EVS stage is of 12 months and will be held in the period 1 June 2017-30 may 2018. In the project there are involved 8 volunteers coming from Turkey and Spain.
The main activities will be:
- Co-organization of educational programs as “summer kindergarden”.
- Organization of regional seminars and of an annual conference.
- Making a media campaign in Rroma communities;
- Promoting volunteering.
The above activities will be implemented using a variety of methods of non-formal education as: workshops, debates, structured dialogue, labyrinth theatre, socio-educational animation, life-coaching, photo-voice, film voice, flash mob, living library, street animation.
The results and achievements of the project will be:
- Promotion in the Roma communities of an integrated education program that will include activities of “summer kindergarden”, “second chance” and “parents’ school” and transfer of good practices to other communities in the project partner countries.
- Acquiring skills by volunteers of working with people with fewer opportunities.
- Acquiring skills by volunteers of initiation and implementation of a media campaign on a given topic.
- The website of the project will serve as a portal for exchange of good practice in volunteering for people with fewer opportunities.
- Creating a DVD that will include the steps of initiating and performing a media campaign, DVD which will serve as an example of good practices for other youth organizations interested in implementing media campaigns.
- Printing a brochure that will contain traditions and customs from the local communities and the communities of volunteers and traditional recipes of healthy food from the volunteers communities and communities where was implemented EVS stage.
On long term, the project will contribute to increasing the number of Roma children who go to school and the wish of more young people with fewer opportunities to participate in Erasmus +.
